PENTUCKET WORKSHOP PRESCHOOL
Educating Children for over 30 years

About the School

GENERAL INFORMATION

Since 1972, Pentucket Workshop Preschool has been a fully licensed, multi-aged program serving children ages 2 years 9 months through 5 years. We use a team teaching approach and serve up to 36 children at one time, maintaining a 6:1 ratio of students to teachers. We operate from September through early June with vacation weeks in December,  February and April.  Our program runs from 8:30 until noon and we offer an  optional extended day program. The  enrollment process begins with  parents attending an Open House scheduled throughout the fall and winter.  Applications may be submitted any time after attending an Open House.  In  January, currently enrolled children are given priority schedules for September.  New applications are processed on a first come, first served basis beginning in   February.  Parents  are contacted by the   Director to arrange individualized schedules for their children with a minimum of two  sessions per week.  Once schedules are confirmed, the orientation process begins in the spring.  In May, one hour classroom visits are arranged for the incoming students and their parents while school is in session.  Then, the week before labor day children are invited to visit school for a two hour session without parents.  School begins for everyone the Monday after Labor Day.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

One of the greatest contributions that the preschool experience can make to the total development of the child is to provide the opportunity for social contact with other children and the emotional maturing process that this contact encourages. Sharing, making decisions and learning to get along with others are some of the social skills that will be practiced. With each new skill mastered, the child begins to develop increased self-confidence and a realistic self-image. Each child further learns she/he is a worthwhile, respected individual. Since all children are welcome in our program, your child will have the advantage of experiencing the similarities, differences and unique contributions of all children.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Moms and Dads are welcome to visit while their child is in school or at any other time. You are welcome to come and observe or help out in an area of the classroom. Many parents enjoy being a snack helper. If you have a particular talent that you can share either with the children or for general maintenance of the building we encourage your involvement. Parents are also welcome to arrange conferences with faculty any time the need arises. We conduct scheduled conferences in the spring.
